Submission Standards for Sahitya Patrika

1. General Requirements

  • Originality: Your article must be an original research work on literature, arts, culture, or linguistics. It must not have been published or submitted elsewhere.
  • Peer Review: All submissions undergo a blind peer-review process by subject-matter experts.
  • Submission Method: * Physical: Submit 2 (two) printed copies to the Editor via mail or in person.
    • Digital: Send a soft copy via email to shahittopotrika@du.ac.bd.

2. Formatting & Layout

To avoid technical rejection, apply these specific settings to your document:

3. Document Structure

  • Page 1 (Title Page): Include the title, author’s name, institutional affiliation, and phone number.
  • Page 2 onwards: Start the main text here, beginning with the title.
  • Headings: Use a decimal numbering system for sections (e.g., 1, 1.1, 1.1.1).
  • Visuals: Tables and figures must be numbered sequentially (1, 2, 3…) and include descriptive captions.

4. Citations and Referencing (The “End-note” Style)

The journal follows a specific in-text and end-of-paper referencing style:

In-Text Citations

  • Short Quotes (<25 words): Keep within the paragraph using quotation marks.
  • Long Quotes (>25 words): Create a new paragraph, indented 0.5 inches from the left. No quotation marks needed.
  • Format: (Author Year: Page). Example: (Buddhadeb 1404: 32).
  • Paraphrasing: Even if you use your own words, you must include the page number.

Bibliography (Sahayak Panji)

List sources alphabetically at the end. List Bengali sources first, followed by English sources.

  • Book: Author (Year). Title (Editor). City: Publisher.
  • Chapter in a Book: Author (Year). “Chapter Title,” in Book Title (Editor). City: Publisher.
  • Journal Article: Author (Year). “Article Title,” Journal Name (Editor). City.

5. Submission Checklist

Before you hit “Send,” ensure you can check off the following:

  • [ ] The manuscript is formatted in Kalpurush (12pt) with 1.5 spacing.
  • [ ] The title page is separate from the main text.
  • [ ] All tables and figures have captions and numbers.
  • [ ] References are formatted correctly according to the examples above.
  • [ ] You have obtained permission for any third-party photos or datasets.
